Troms and Finnmark County Municipality wanted to upgrade the ferry quay at Storstein, and the project was divided into two contracts. The marine contractor was responsible for dredging, blasting, and demolition while the existing ferry was in operation.
The client was Troms and Finnmark County Municipality, which also handled the design, while Martin Andreas Olaussen acted as the site manager. The construction period was from April to June 2021, and the contract amount was 8 million kroner. The vessels used were Caesar and Mudrun, in addition to support vessels.
The project constituted the first part of two contracts for the new ferry quay at Storstein in Skjervøy municipality. Approximately 6500 cubic metres were dredged, mainly consisting of very hard moraine materials and rock. Due to the challenging conditions, Caesar with a ripper was used to loosen the moraine materials, resulting in around 6700 cubic metres of hard loose materials. Mudrun was then used to blast rock to the desired navigation depth and to make space for manhole rings, with a total of around 1300 cubic metres of blasted rock.
Some of the materials were transported ashore and used to build a landslide embankment, where Robertsen & Slotnes AS was a subcontractor. The remaining materials were deposited at an approved sea disposal site. The landslide embankment was an additional job that HAK Entreprenør AS took over the administration of when they started contract 2 after the Marine Contractor had finished their work.
