Dredging is a crucial part of modern maritime infrastructure, where sediments, stones and other materials are removed from the seabed to ensure safe and functional ports, fairways and quays. This process is not only central to maintaining the necessary depth for sea traffic, but also for preparing the seabed before the construction of new structures such as quays, breakwaters and underwater foundations. Properly executed dredging not only improves accessibility and safer navigation, but also lays a solid foundation for further development of port areas and maritime facilities.

Dredging is important to maintain safe navigation depth in ports and approaches, prepare the seabed for new construction, maintain existing maritime installations and carry out environmental dredging to remove contaminated masses. All these measures contribute to efficient operations, safer passage and a better maritime environment.

At Sjøentreprenøren we use both mechanical and hydraulic dredging, adapted to the project’s needs and the local ground conditions. Our equipment includes dredging cranes with a reach down to –200 metres, excavators operating down to –19 metres, as well as rippers on excavators to loosen hard masses before extraction. We also have dredging pumps that can be used on looser masses. This combination of modern technology and high expertise enables us to deliver precise and effective solutions, even under demanding conditions.

Typical projects we carry out include deepening of ports and approaches, preparation for quay construction and underwater foundations, maintenance of maritime facilities and environmental dredging to clean up contaminated seabeds. In all our projects, we have a strong focus on environment and safety. We adhere to strict environmental regulations, have routines to prevent sediment dispersion, and document the entire process to ensure sustainable and safe solutions for both the environment and people.
