The project involved creating a safer approach to Maurholen by widening and deepening the navigation channel.
53,000m3 was to be dredged over an area of 22,000m2. There were 165m3 of contaminated materials that were to be brought ashore and delivered to an approved landfill. We used Svaaheia. 10,000m3 was to be dumped inside Egersund at Holvika, to fill the industrial area there. The remaining materials were dumped in an approved sea disposal site near the construction area.
At Holvika, the County Governor required various environmental measures for dumping the materials. The seabed in Holvika was contaminated and was to be covered with the clean materials dredged up in the project. The placement of the first 15cm therefore had to be done very carefully to avoid stirring up the materials already on the seabed.
